Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 26, 2026
This policy explains what data TimeGuess collects, why, and what you can do about it.
What we collect
Without an account: a random identifier in a cookie, so your progress and daily attempt survive a page reload. No name, no e-mail.
With an account: your display name, e-mail address and a hash of your password. We never store the password itself.
While you play: match results — scores, guessed year and place, time per round. This is what leaderboards and statistics are built from.
Technical data: IP address and browser type in server logs, kept for security and debugging.
Why we collect it
To run the game: save progress, enforce one daily attempt, build leaderboards.
To improve content: cards where almost everyone misses by decades are probably mislabelled, and we find them through aggregate statistics.
To process payments, if you buy a subscription.
Cookies
Essential cookies hold your session and language. They cannot be switched off — without them the game does not work.
Analytics cookies are set only after you accept them in the banner. You can change your mind by clearing site data.
Who else sees your data
Map tiles are loaded from Esri, which therefore sees your IP address.
{{Payment provider}} processes payments. We never see your card details.
We do not sell personal data and do not share it for advertising.
Your rights
You can request a copy of your data, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete your account and everything tied to it.
Write to {{contact e-mail}}. We answer within 30 days.
Retention
Account data is kept while the account exists. After deletion, match results remain only in anonymous aggregate form.
Server logs are kept for {{retention period}}.
